Digital Simplification

The infinite 10 second video scroll format popularised by TikTok has proven highly addictive for me and almost every social media app has incorporated this in some form. I can no longer use them in moderation, they are too well designed to win against.

So instead of giving in and buying a premium dumbphone like the Punkt phone I have simplified my iPhone 12 mini to be a tool for the bare necessities. Here's what it looks like:

I have deleted any app with evil infiniscroll technology and only keep ones I truly need or deem to be of a non-demomic nature. Any other apps are utilities I use once in a while and I have to use search to open them.

I also keep the phone in greyscale mode most of the time, as it's less exciting.

As an ongoing firefight for my attention, any time I get a notification that isn't useful I turn off notifications for the given app. Same with emails, I am unsubscribing to everything that isn't useful.

The last and hardest part I'm trying to do is to not browse the internet so much.
